Located in the heart of downtown Toronto, Core Condos is a 24-storey residential tower that is custom-tailored for a young, highly social crowd. Built on a site listed on the City of Toronto’s Inventory of Heritage Properties, the designated façades and roof form of the existing century townhouses are integrated into the new development.

The architectural aspiration of this project was to embody and express the energy that characterizes the neighbourhood, and to reflect the personality of its residents. Narrow black architectural elements are incorporated along the sides of the building, creating a look similar to a sheet of paper wrapped around loosely with the corners turned back, or like a shirt with the top few buttons undone; attracting a young, professional buyer with an appreciation for design, dubbed a “button-down, not buttoned up” demographic.

The end result is an artful composition of two highly sculpted façades separated by a very narrow architectural slot at the north and south ends of the building. The juxtaposition of these skewed forms, their interaction with each other and the sculptural base, creates a very dramatic and visually-arresting architectural ensemble.
